ABOUT MASTIFFS
GENERAL INFORMATION
Although we are new to the Mastiff world, we are not new to the world of dogs. I have spent a lot of time researching the breed and pedigrees/lines but that is only the begining. There is a great debate in the Mastiff world. This involves the lines that go back to Deer Run. Either you are ok with the Deer Run dogs, or dead against any Mastiff that comes from those lines. The Mastiffs that do not come from those lines are Old English lines. We are not against Deer Run lines, as there are a lot of extremely good quality dogs produced from that line, and many champions. Most of our dogs are a combination of Deer run and Old English lines. I have 1 female that is almost all old Engish, but upon further research, one dog did in fact go back to Deer Run. You can research pedigrees fartehr back than the 4 or 5 generation you get from a breeder or AKC by going to the following website: http://www.bessie.tv/sites/pedigree pick some of the grandparents or great grandparents and go back from there. An invaluable site for Mastiff breeders and anyone wanting to know their dogs family tree.
Owning a Mastiff is not for everyone. Despite having dogs all my life, and larger ones at that, I was unprepared for the mayhem they can cause. The first day they were here (my girls were between 4 and 6 months), they went through a wall. They were just playing, didn't stop in time and boom. They ate a bathroom sink while they were bored one day, and the list goes on. If you have ever seen the movie Turner and Hooch, that is similar to life with a Mastiff puppy. So before you want to invest in one of these awesome dogs, you must consider if you have the patience to deal with an 80 pound puppy.
