About Our Cockers
What We Do, And Why
Over ten years ago I raised Cocker Spaniels. We had the basic colors; black, chocolate, buff, red, and partis in those. Tris were a little hard to find (especially chocolates) at the time. I had only heard of Merle Cockers, and another breeder told me that they were usually registered as Roans. At the time, there were neiher Roans nor Merles to be had here in Kentucky, so I just went on with what I had. I had never heard of a Sable Cocker at that time either.
My divorce forced me to place all but one of our Cockers, Prissy, who eventually found a loving pet home to retire in. My love for the breed has never died, and I am happy to announce they once again are a part of Black Diamond Dogs.
We have chosen to bred not one, but three of the controversal colors/patterns in this breed. Why? Because they are beautiful for one, and also because I LOVE to ruffle feathers of the show snobs! These would be Merles, Sables, and Roans.
Unfortunately most people do not know the difference between a Roan and a Merle since Merles have been registered as Roans for so long. The differences in these patterns are plain once you can see the difference. To save time and space (yes I am somewhat lazy, lol) you can read about them on my friend's website her for Merles and here for Roans.
Sables too are taboo to show people, but at least at this time they can in fact be registered correctly.
So to all you snobby show people who think you should only breed buff to buff or black to black, one day I will create a Sable Roan dog that is also a Merle, and dedicate it to you! Maybe I will name it Black Diamond's In Your Face or something along those lines.
Do no bother emailing me about the "evils" of breeding merles. I do have a delete key, and I am not afraid to use it. They are here to stay so get over it and yourself. Nothing you say will change my mind.
